Since the foie gras ban in California came into effect last summer, Pelle's gotten himself a dealer... First they take our python skin and now this! People protest fur and not leather because rich women are easier to harass than biker gangs. Foie is actually pretty sad, but it's so darn delicious that we try to understand it in terms of utilitarian good. We do only eat pasture raised eggs from Pete and Gerry's and Vital Farms in the US, or buy them with schnaps off the countryside in Austria.
(since pasture raised chickens have a diverse diet of bugs and grains they find outside, rather than just corn which is the case of many normal and cage-free eggs, the yolk is a vibrant delicious orange instead of a dull yellow, plus more nutritious for the same amount if calories! Hit three ethically raised birds with one stone!) For the longest time I thought their hit song Like a G6 was actually saying Cheese-stick... "now I'm feeling so fly like a cheese-stick, like a cheese-stick, like a cheese-stick..." (The right one is wearing aviators) I was kind of disappointed when I learned they were actually referring to a jet, but Pelle prefers blood to marinara sauce anyway. ...till next time, SF!
We've been MIA these past couple years because Pelle kept going in and out of rehab for various reasons, including but not limited to: cutting (things with his razor sharp teeth and claws), sour patch kids, fake pearls, ravaging, pillaging, blow- ing fire in the face of squirrels and children, being emotionally insensitive kidney stones, squishing blueberries between his toes, etc. ..it was mildly effective (my dad handed me this brochure this morning suggesting I enroll in the seminar -- in response I let Pelle at it) We have a backlog of T-rex Tragedies Adventures in Israel, Jordan, Paris, etc. to come, but in the meantime... **P.S. these cheeky/hilarious Adam Mars pieces are up at the fantastic Gusford Gallery - definitely check it out if you're in LA!!
This art form, which obfuscates itself from all but the most superior and evolved minds... ...unfortunately, remains elusive to us. **Answer: Wiener Konzerthaus
(people sitting behind Row I were pretty upset) After several months sojourning with my sister in Indiana, Pelle just arrived this morning in Vienna AND has come out as VEGETARIAN. He's assured me that he still relishes in his rampant, blood-thirsty massacres, and will continue to kill things with undiscerning rage, he's just morally opposed to eating them afterward. This wonderful package from my sister was just delivered this morning (under the supervision of Pelle) I'm a bit concerned about Herr Johanns re-acclimation to co-existence with Pelle.
He had developed rather refined dining habits (as shown by his breakfast routine these past months), but the moment Pelle returned he reverted to the most uncivilized behavior. Though we don't usually go to Starbucks in the land of Kaffehauses, in honor of this grand American holiday (and to mitigate my homesickness), Herr Johann and I put on an American Flag scarf and ordered a non-fat Latte (I cheated by forgoing the paper cup though). I'm pretty sure this is what I'd be doing with my sister and brother right now if I were home. Herr Johann ordered carcass with extra transfat. This is the first year in my entire life I've ever been away from my family for Thanksgiving. :( Even when I was studying abroad in London I hopped on a flight to be back home for like 3 days. I have some things lined up this week and so decided not to head back to California, but now I'm starting to regret it. Some photos from Thanksgivings past to indulge my nostalgia: (My mom makes the turkey, I buy a Ham in a tin from CVS) Our tradition is to have a large dinner party. My mom will make a turkey, and order sushi and a honeybaked ham. The kids all bring their instruments and we play afterward. One year my sister had a concert in Japan so we all flew over to have Thanksgiving dinner together (that year we only had sushi and it was moving on my plate because it had just been alive.)
Anyway, I am so thankful for my wonderful family. It is a blessing to have something which inspires longing. I hope everyone has as loving, kind and nurturing intellectually and spiritually family as mine. HAPPY THANKSGIVING! love love Love all around!! Herr Johann tried to eat it When I explained we were in an airplane he got really excited bc he had a list of mediocre romantic comedies he'd been wanting to see. Then he realized there was no entertainment system and got really disgruntled. While we were going over the safety checks he kept impatiently demanding salted peanuts (really embarrassing)...
